Ohio State's was established in 1870, as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College. Revolutionizing the nation's approach to higher education, Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College allowed anyone with a high school education the opportunity to earn a college degree. In 1878, the college's name was changed to The Ohio State University and the first class of six men graduated that same year. The first woman graduated from Ohio State in 1879.
